RUMINATION

March 2019

Rumination is a selection of films which explore themes of continuity and repetition. With an interest in the philosophy of existentialism, the work investigates through time-based media, the anxieties and reassurances of reoccurrence. Activated by Albert Camus' essay, 'The Myth of Sisyphus', where a man is cursed to push a boulder up a hill for eternity, the artist explores the idea of being stuck in a loop or limbo state. Camus writes: "The struggle its self is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine that Sisyphus was happy".  The piece is made up of 3 separate reels of films on three different televisions. The pieces interact with each other when they are played side by side and the installation can be viewed differently dependent on when the loops are started. Scroll for individual videos.
